Mayor has fingers in his ears on mosque

The mosque simply doesn’t comply with the town’s architectural guidelines to be "sympathetic” to the existing buildings in the nearby heritage district — and that is it in a nutshell.
Thank you, Joyce Ramer, for summing it up perfectly.
It would seem our mayor simply doesn’t get that. Yet he will talk out of the other side of his mouth when he is supporting the Markham heritage committee coming down on yet another resident rebuilding a heritage home.
The people have spoken, Mr. Scarpitti. They don’t want a huge mosque that will only serve to create an even more severe traffic problem at Hwy. 48 and 16th Avenue and that esthetically will not suit the area. (...)
