Turkey: Istanbul mosque will have world's highest minarets

ANKARA - The new mega mosque that Islamist nationalist Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised the people of Istanbul will have the world's highest minarets, architect Haci Mehmet Guner told Milliyet daily.

The premier had announced in May that the new 15,000 square metre mosque would be built on Camlica hill, in the Asian part of Istanbul, and that its 15 million inhabitants would be able to see it ''from every corner of the city.'' (...)
