U.S. Muslim Soldier Gets Life For Planning Terrorist Attack

AWOL American Soldier, Private Naser Jason Abdo was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus 60 years in prison to plotting to bomb and shoot soldiers from the Fort Hood army base last year.
With the intention of outdoing Major Nidal Hassan, Abdo planned to bomb a restaurant popular with Ft. Hood soldiers and then wait outside and shoot any survivors. Hassan was a Muslim army psychiatrist who killed 13 soldiers in a 2009 terrorist attack on Ft. Hood soldiers.
Abdo, 22, originally from Dallas, is a convert to Islam and said his attack was to be a response to the treatment of his fellow Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan by the U.S. military. He had applied for the status of a conscientious objector in 2009, but his CO status was put on hold after he was found in possession of child pornography in 2011. Shortly afterwards, he went AWOL.
