FGM 'is a way for men to control women'

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is practiced by many men as a means of controlling women, an expert has argued. According to urologist Dr Pierre Foldes, who has developed a technique to reverse many of the physical effects of FGM, some males are "scared" of women's sexuality.

Speaking to TIME, he said this has been true of men for many years and explains why some carry out the surgical procedure on females.
