In 2009, the Fatwa Committee of Malaysia's National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs ruled that "female circumcision" as it's become known, was obligatory for Muslims, but if harmful, must be avoided.

Recently, the University of Malaya surveyed more than 1000 Malay Muslim women. They found more than 90 per cent of the respondents had been circumcised, with the majority of them circumcising their daughters, if they had one, too. (continue reading...)
