Even at today's prices $50bn (£31.56bn) goes a long way. For that sort of money you don't just get Harrods, the Shard, Chelsea Barracks, part ownership of Barclays, Sainsbury's, the Olympic Village, the London Stock Exchange and, oddly enough, 20% of Camden market, you get a leading role on the world stage.
