New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Police commissioner to submit a status report on an "Islamist” website (www.shariah4hind.com) within a week.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Shah Endlaw was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, president of the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena. The PIL has sought a ban on the website as it has allegedly threatened communal harmony in India.

Female genital mutilation, also known as FGM refers to all procedures which partially or completely remove the external female genitalia. FGM also includes any other injury to a woman's or girl's genitalia for reasons other than medical ones. In most parts of the world, FGM is done by non-medical practitioners who also attend childbirths and carry out male circumcisions. According to WHO (World Health Organization), over 18% of all female genital mutilation procedures are carried out by health care professionals in clinical setting, a trend which appears to be growing.

Statistics at the World Health Organization (WHO), indicate that an estimated number of 140 million girls in the world have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Mrs Florence Ali, President of the Ghana Association for Women’s Welfare (GAWW) who disclosed this, said female genital mutilation is a violation of several human rights including the right to life, physical integrity and that three million girls and women are at risk of being subjected to the practice.”
