&lt;p&gt;It is true, as some observers point out, that many people make stupid choices and more or less freely vote for parties that insult them and take away their freedom and dignity. This is a very real problem and exposes some of the &lt;a target=&quot;_blank&quot; href=&quot;http://democracyreform.blogspot.com/&quot;&gt;flaws of mass democracy&lt;/a&gt;. I don’t question that. The issue is whether there is also something else at work in the modern West in addition to this, and my answer to that is “yes”.&lt;/p&gt;
