Pope Francis has proclaimed the first saints of his pontificate in a ceremony at the Vatican – a list which includes 800 victims of an atrocity carried out by Ottoman soldiers in 1480.
They were beheaded in the southern Italian town of Otranto after refusing to convert to Islam.
Their names are unknown, apart from one man, Antonio Primaldo.

Magdi Allam Leaves Catholic Church Over Its Dhimmitude
Faithfreedom.org 26 March 2013
By Andrew Bostom
In a profoundly symbolic gesture (hat tip Tundra Tabloids), which epitomizes the Catholic Church’s abject dhimmitude, high-profile Muslim convert to Christianity Magdi Cristiano Allam, has renounced his Catholicism because of what he terms the Church’s weakness toward, and legitimation of, Islam.
Allam, who will remain a Christian, reiterated his belief that Islam is inherently violent, to both its own votaries, and non-Muslims, and criticized The Church for lacking "the vision and courage to denounce the incompatibility of Islam with our [Western] civilization and fundamental rights of the person.”
Will Pope Francis Challenge Muslim Persecution of Christians?
FRONTPAGEMAG.COM 14 March 2013
By Robert Spencer
Jorge Bergoglio, Pope Francis, assumes the papal throne at a time when Christians in many countries around the world are more threatened, and are living more precariously, than they have for centuries
Christians face violent persecution on an increasingly frequent basis in Pakistan, Egypt, and Nigeria, and to a lesser degree in Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, and elsewhere in the Islamic world. Yet for the most part the Church in recent years has been silent about this persecution, and in the West has pursued "dialogue” with Islamic groups that glosses over the grim and bloody realities that all too many Christians in the Islamic world face.
Will Pope Francis end this deceptive and fruitless posturing and raise his voice for his threatened and embattled brethren?
