The Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, was in Bradford for the launch of a report into the attitudes of young British Muslims.

Residents living in a sleepy Cornish village say they face a rude awakening every day because hundreds of Muslims are using a loudspeaker system to broadcast the call to prayer. A large group of Iranian Muslims have gathered to celebrate the Persian New Year at the Trevelgue Holiday Park in Porth. Every day at sunrise, noon and sunset the group use a loudspeaker system to broadcast their prayers - known as Adhan.

A perception among migrants that they are unwelcome in Britain is undermining efforts to help them integrate into wider society, a report out today has revealed. The study for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation found nearly half of migrants say they have experienced race discrimination and 30% of Muslims recently arrived in Britain have come across religious prejudice. 
Muslims get own site for burials

MUSLIMS have been given their own burial site after a seven-year campaign by an action group. Kettering Council has installed the area at Rothwell Cemetery, including a boundary of hedges and trees, as part of a £370,000 improvement scheme. Race Action Kettering has been campaigning for the move after saying there were inadequate burial facilities for the number of Muslims living in the town, which is thought to be about 500.

MUSLIM doctors wearing veils may have to take them off if patients object. New guidance published by the General Medical Council says members must not allow personal, religious and moral views to affect patient care. The document, called Personal Beliefs And Medical Practice, says it is for employers to set rules on workplace dress. But it says some patients may find that a face veil `presents an obstacle to effective communication and the development of trust' and that in some situations doctors may have to `set aside' their personal and cultural preferences. 
UK Muslim preacher jailed for rape

An east London man who preached at his local mosque has been jailed for 10 years for rape and perverting the course of justice. Abdul Mukim Khalisadar, 26, who was not an imam but gave religious talks at the East London Mosque in Whitechapel, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court. Khalisadar had pleaded guilty last month to raping 27-year-old a woman after forcing his way into her Whitechapel home in October 2005.
